Portfolio I is a class designed to prepare graduating seniors create a brand identity and to direct their services to potential clients and or production studios. These students have little or no experience with graphic design. The intention of the class is to make them aware of design principles, typography, and industry standards.

We designed business cards, resumes, DVD covers, created mock demo reels and built websites. We used Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Toon Boom, Dreamweaver, Wordpress, Squarespace, Carbonmade, InDesign,  After Effects,  Premiere and 3DSMAX. Each student focused on specific skill sets they had mastered and spent time improving on those that needed improvement.

As their professor I acted mainly as an Art Director. I advised them on their designs, networked with industry professionals and gave the students insight into industry expectations for Game Art, Animation, Visual Effects and Film. I also brought in industry professionals to critique their creations and advise them on ways to improve their portfolio.

Note: there is a time period or gap in these examples as my former employer went to a web based portal that I embraced early in 2008. It gave students 24/7/365 access to the data, syllabus, assignments, examples, deadlines, ect. However it was problematic to document. Essentially each class assignment was an HTML based webpage. Students submitted their assignments to the portal and I graded them there. Any examples I kept were to print for hallway examples. Thus few and further between.
